The hallmark of Cort’s Gold series is the Aged to Vintage (ATV) treatment that cures the Sitka spruce top to deliver the full and open tone of a vintage guitar, from day one. ATV acts as a torrefaction process, giving the Gold-O8 a big, open tone that’s bright, yet natural with a strong and warm midrange that’s reinforced by the solid Pau Ferro back and sides. A sonically enhanced UV finish protects both the instrument and tonal quality, and is now available in a new Light Burst color option in addition to Natural Gloss.

Aged to Vintage Top

A vintage instrument is the holy grail of acoustic guitar tone. The wood on the top cures and opens up more over time. This unleashes a tonal quality that is missing in new instruments — until now. Using a special process that we call ATV (Aged To Vintage) we treat the solid sitka spruce top to give it that big and open tone of a decades-old, highly-sought-after acoustic. This torrefaction process delivers that amazing tone to you right out of the box.

Solid Sitka Spruce Top

Featuring superior strength and dense grains along with the flexibility to resonate freely, the premium grade solid Sitka spruce top on the Gold Series is ideal for virtually any musical genre with a brilliant and clear high-end, warm and rich midrange, and a deep but tight low-end for a beautifully balanced sound.

Solid Pau Ferro Back and Sides

Pau Ferro, also known as Morado, Santos Rosewood or Bolivian Rosewood boasts many of the qualities that are highly regarded in tonewood that is close to Indian Rosewood. It's stable, abrasion resistant, hard, attractive, exotic and has good impression strength parallel to the grain.

Vintage OM Body

The Gold-O8 features a classic OM body style. This body style initially developed in the 1920’s captures the prized pre-war era tone that is often sought after. Sonically it delivers a sound that is larger than its compact size would hint at and with a level of dynamic responsiveness that makes it a joy to play.

Walnut Reinforced Neck

The neck on the Gold has been reinforced for added rigidity and stability using two special inserts. This is constructed with two pieces of walnut installed to add stability while still retaining the natural properties of wood to further upgrade the Gold.

DoubleLock Neck Joint

The connection between a guitar’s neck and body is another key factor for great sound. On the Gold, we started with a tight fitting traditional dovetail neck joint. We then reinforced it by adding a bolt. This DoubleLock neck joint maximizes the transfer of tone and enhances resonance on the Gold.

Hand-Rolled Fret Edge Treatment

The shaping and treatment of a guitar’s frets have a big impact on comfort and performance. Most guitar makers simply bevel the frets at each end to eliminate the sharp edges. Boutique acoustic builders, however, use a method to dress their frets to make them round, smooth, and ultra-comfortable to touch and play. This process is highly complex and time-consuming and requires the skilled workmanship of experienced craftsmen. On the Gold, the Cort offers this enhancement typically reserved for much higher priced instruments.

Neck Profile

Cort has developed comfortable dimensions in neck thickness from the headstock to the heel to increase comfort in your hands and optimize playability. To assure consistency, Cort uses state-of-the-art CNC machines to accurately mill each and every neck. Each neck is then carefully sanded and finished by skilled craftsmen who have a dedication and passion for building some of the best acoustic guitars in the world.

Sonically Enhanced UV Finish

UV finish is about 30% thinner than standard finishes and this allows the wood to “breathe” and vibrate more freely. This process requires a shorter drying time and reduces chemical interaction between the finish and the woods,which is ideal for your instrument’s longevity. Due to the much shorter drying time and the lack of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in the UV finish material, it is also an environmentally friendly process. This high-tech finish is strong enough to be resistant to scratches but light weight enough to improve the natural acoustic resonance of the body for a full, rich tone.

Ebony Fingerboard

There are many types of woods that are used for fingerboard but no other compares to the jet-black beauty and slick smoothness of Ebony.

Ebony Bridge Pins

The high density of Ebony wood keeps the fundamental acoustic sound focused and tight with greater sonic projection than plastic, enhancing the transfer of the string vibrations throughout the soundboard top, body and the neck.
